Timing

Charlotte pool season: Late March-early April (when night temps stay above 60°F)

Opening Checklist

Week Before: 1. Remove winter cover (if used) 2. Clean cover before storing 3. Inspect pool for damage 4. Check equipment for leaks/issues

Opening Day: 1. Fill pool to proper level 2. Reinstall accessories (ladders, diving board) 3. Clean pool thoroughly 4. Start filtration system 5. Test water chemistry 6. Shock the pool (double normal chlorine)

First Week: 1. Run pump 24/7 for 3-5 days 2. Brush walls and floor daily 3. Test water daily, adjust chemistry 4. Add algaecide if needed 5. Clean filter

Target Water Chemistry

  • pH: 7.4-7.6
  • Alkalinity: 80-120 ppm
  • Chlorine: 2-4 ppm (initial), then 1-3 ppm
  • Calcium: 200-400 ppm

Common Issues
